Siemens joins hands with Shandong to build an innovation ecosystem

•Siemens cooperates with Aucma to establish a joint laboratory for robotic applications

•Siemens Qingdao Innovation Center officially enters Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark Passive House Technical Center

•Co-construct an innovation ecosystem with local partners

On today’s Siemens Qingdao Innovation Forum, the company announced to join hands with Aucma to establish a joint laboratory for robotic applications and work together on developing special robots, unmanned vehicles, industrial robots and intelligent equipments. Siemens will provide technical expertise in hardware, software and mechanical design for the joint laboratory and help Aucma set up a new intelligent manufacturing business sector. 

“Cooperating with Aucma is another substantial step forward after the announcement that Siemens China will lead the company’s global research in autonomous robotics.” said Dr Zhu Xiaoxun, Senior Vice President of Siemens Ltd., China and Head of Siemens Corporate Technology China. “Our vision is to create an innovation ecosystem together with local enterprises by setting up a platform that integrates virtual world and reality. With our partners, Siemens aims to build a global advanced innovation center of intelligent manufacture which is focusing on Qingdao, serving Shandong, and ultimately helping realize national strategic goals.”   

“Made in China 2025” has listed robotics and high-end CNC machine tools into the top ten key areas requiring vigorous promotion to make breakthroughs.” Taking this as an opportunity, Siemens and Aucma will research and develop on special robotics mainly used for special fire fighting and rescue operations, which can improve work efficiency and avoid casualties of fire fighters. Using Siemens core control components and high frequency long distance wireless communication technology, the robot will be able to keep stable operation in distance and handle complex situations flexibly. It can also be used in all kinds of soft, muddy, or even complicated environment. Integrated with multiple sensor systems, the robot can obtain real-time information and provide technical support for operators to timely understand with the situations on-site.

Siemens also announced at the forum that Qingdao Innovation Center has officially entered Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark Passive House Technical Center. Siemens Qingdao Innovation Center launched in February 2016. Backed by Siemens’ global innovation network, the center focuses on technological innovation, development and application in fields such as intelligent manufacture, robotics, modern logistics, big data, industrial Internet of Things, cyber security, and smart city. Meanwhile, the center will cooperate with Chinese enterprises to explore advanced technologies for China, develop national and industrial demonstration projects, promote technological revolution in relevant industries and play an active role in creation of relevant national, and industrial and corporate standards.

Over the years, Siemens has worked with local enterprises in Qingdao to develop and participate in the construction of numerous key projects positively, which has strongly supported the local social and economic development. Early in 1903, Siemens has provided motors for Tsingtao Brewery. Siemens has also provided Doublestar’s intelligent tire production line with a full suite of manufacturing execution system (MES) software. By the end of fiscal year 2017 (October 1, 2016 – September 30, 2017), Siemens had around 12,000 active patents and patent applications in China, as well as 21 R&D hubs and more than 4,500 R&D and engineering staff.
