Siemens Energy’s first H-class gas turbine in Mainland China passes 168-hour test run

The first unit of SGT5-8000H heavy-duty gas turbine provided by Siemens Energy for China's first double H-class gas turbines project has recently completed its 168-hour trial operation with full load. The milestone marks the gas turbine entering commercial operation after the successful completion of placing, erection, turning gear, ignition and synchronization. Invested by Huadian Fuxin Energy Corporation Limited (Huadian Fuxin), a subsidiary of China Huadian Corporation Ltd (CHD), the project is also the largest Combined Cooling, Heating and Power (CCHP) project in China.

“This is a new and very special historic moment for us. Together with CHD and all partners, Siemens Energy commits to overcoming challenges, steadily advancing project construction and ensuring the high-quality delivery in this unprecedented period,” said Yao Zhenguo, President and CEO of Siemens Energy Hub China. “China is in a critical stage of transition to a green, low-carbon and clean modern energy system. Siemens Energy's advanced technology and rich global experience in the field of clean energy will continue to provide practical and reliable support for China's energy transition, carry out international cooperation, confront climate change jointly and achieve green development.”

Siemens Energy supplied two sets of equipment including two SGT5-8000H gas turbines, two steam turbines and four generators for the CCHP project which located in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. In March 2019, the first unit was successfully lifted on the foundation, and in May this year, it launched first firing. The second unit has been under construction.

The SGT5-8000H heavy-duty gas turbine has such advantages as high efficiency, short start-up time and fast response to load changes. Up to now, the H-class gas turbine has been on the market for about a decade and exceeded 1.5 million fired hours of commercial operation. With almost 100 machines sold, the H-class turbine is one of the highest net efficiency, outstanding reliability and powerful gas turbine products currently in commercial operation.
