• Providing a 5G-based remote diagnostic assistant and laboratorial co-robot remote operation technology
• 5G-enabled remote ultrasound solution from Siemens Healthineers showcased at CIIE 2019
Recently, Siemens IoT Services provided its 5G system integration technologies to Siemens Healthineers, including a 5G-based remote diagnostic assistant and laboratorial co-robot remote operation technology, which makes high-quality remote diagnosis of medical images possible through HD video transmission. This is the first time that Siemens applied 5G in healthcare ultrasound field, enabling the advanced medical imaging system from Siemens Healthineers to be extensively used in community-oriented primary healthcare.
At the China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2019, the solution from Siemens Healthineers made its debut. The on-site staff of Siemens Healthineers used the HD video and images transmitted via 5G network signals to make real-time communication with the sonographer at the Community Health Service Center of Shaoqing Street in Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County for instructions and consultation, providing timely and accurate diagnosis for patients.
“The applications of IoT and AI technologies allow the healthcare industry to get digitalized, and the demands for example for online healthcare services, intelligent diagnosis and treatment, and refined hospital management are increasingly growing. 5G technology that features high data rate, low delay, and low cost can meet the network requirements of many remote scenarios. We are closely working with Siemens Healthineers to proactively create a new digital healthcare ecosystem,” said Dr. Zhu Xiaoxun, Executive Vice President and General Manager IoT Services, Siemens Ltd., China.
Siemens remote diagnostic assistant combines the HD images and HD cameras of medical imaging equipment and transmits the images to the remote expert side via 5G network, enabling the remote experts to provide operational guidance to the involved physicians and diagnose the high-quality medical images. The solution helps enable real-time sharing of expert capabilities between hospitals and between hospital and healthcare groups, effectively addressing the challenges facing multi-hospital collaborations and extensive deployment of medical imaging equipment.
In addition to the remote diagnostic assistant that enables high-quality remote diagnosis, Siemens also integrates robots and 5G technology to launch laboratorial collaborative robot remote operation technology that can make remote scan and examination possible for remote areas or other areas with scarce healthcare resources. In the future, wide deployment of robotic technologies allows adept diagnosis and treatment skills of expert-level doctors to be duplicated at remote side, and gradually pushes some healthcare services to break the geographical restrictions. In addition, the robotics-based automatic scan technology will help to promote automated and unattended routine examinations and will have great significance in promoting sharing of medical diagnosis and treatment experience while significantly reducing the time and cost of healthcare.
