Under the theme of "Accelerate digitalization for a sustainable tomorrow ", Siemens attended the 18th China International Machine Tool Show (CIMT 2023) to showcase how its digital product portfolio for machine tool manufacturing that integrates the digital and real worlds can help machine tool manufacturers and end users accelerate digital transformation in different links of the entire value chain, such as R&D and design, manufacturing and production optimization. At this year’s show, the company also invited several partners to show up together, leveraging its cutting-edge technology and the robust ecosystem of SINUMERIK to explore the application of digital technology in more machining scenarios and sectors.
“"In the process of accelerating the new industrialization, the manufacturing industry's requirements for precision, stability and efficiency of machining have also increased. Leveraging digital technology to develop and manufacture machine tools and machining parts in a faster, better-quality and more cost-efficient manner has become an inevitable choice for companies to enhance their market competitiveness," said Li Lei, General Manager of Motion Control and Senior Vice President of Digital Industries, Siemens Ltd., China. " Siemens not only offers one-stop digital solutions covering the entire value chain of the machine tool industry, but also is committed to building a digital ecosystem together with machine tool manufacturers and end users, so as to apply digital technology in a variety of machining scenarios and enable more industries to accelerate high-quality transformation."
Helping machine tool manufacturers practice sustainable development with digital solutions across the entire value chain
During the show, Siemens presented its innovative digital solutions covering the entire value chain of the machine tool industry. The product portfolio and solutions for the machine tool industry can help customers continuously optimize their part machining solutions to maximize equipment effectiveness, save material consumption, reduce coolant and other waste emissions, and help customers reduce costs and increase efficiency through improving business models and thus move faster towards a sustainable future. These solutions will also be available on the Siemens Xcelerator open digital business platform.
In the product development stage, Siemens’ Machine Tool Virtual Commissioning solution can help machine tool manufacturers reduce the time required for machine design by 30% and field commissioning by 60%, thus boosting machine development and time-to-market efficiency. For machine tool users, the Machine Tool Virtual Machining solution enables simulation verification of machining process, machining speed, acceleration, cycle time, etc., helping customers significantly reduce trial cutting time and cost while avoiding collision risk.
In the production optimization stage, Siemens Intelligent Adaptive Control & Monitoring Suite with artificial intelligence technology can dynamically optimize machining process uncertainties, helping customers reduce metal cutting time by 5%-30%, while offering various functions such as machine spindle protection, tool wear monitoring and spindle drive protection. Siemens Mcenter Software can analyze overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), monitor shopfloor production processes and resource status, optimize production processes, and prepare tools and program resources for production in advance, helping customers achieve transparent factory management. Siemens Industrial Edge solution for the machine tool industry can collect, analyze and respond to high-frequency data in the production process in time, helping the machine tool industry shorten the innovation cycle and increase productivity.
Focusing on new machining scenarios to further upgrade user experience
Siemens also showcased its rich portfolio of hardware and software products for customers in the machine tool industry. Siemens' digital native CNC system SINUMERIK ONE brings a new hardware platform and a variety of innovative functions to adapt to more machining scenarios, comprehensively enhancing the user experience for machine tool manufacturers and users. In mold production, the Top Speed function, with its new algorithm-based filter, can significantly increase the machining speed and coordinate with the Top Surface function to ensure both machining efficiency and accuracy. The Intelligent Load Control (ILC) function can intelligently match the control data in accordance with the weight of workpieces and give full play to machines’ dynamic performance, when frequent workpiece changes are required, for example, on direct-drive rotary tables. In the processing operations of large machine tools such as gantry machine tools, the Intelligent Dynamic Control (IDC) function can adjust control parameters according to changes in machine axis position or speed, resulting in higher control and machining accuracy. In drilling and tapping operations, the Jerk Adaption function raises the upper acceleration limit and optimizes the shortest path for non-machining time, thus improving the overall efficiency.
During the show, Siemens launched the new SINUMERIK 828D split controller for grinding in the Chinese market. This product was developed in response to the needs of customers in the grinding and gear industry, allowing customers to flexibly select SIMATIC IPC and displays according to their needs and develop their own human-machine interfaces.
Tapping into more sectors to build a partner ecosystem covering the entire industry chain of machine tools
Siemens has not only created comprehensive digital solutions for the machine tool manufacturing industry, but also actively tapped into new sectors, creating digital solutions tailored for customers in more industries. During the show, the company deeply demonstrated its latest solutions and application cases in new energy vehicles, power generation, aerospace, consumer electronics, construction machinery, education and other industries.
During the show, Siemens actively expanded its cooperation with Chinese machine tool manufacturers and signed strategic cooperation agreements in the fields of CNC and digitalization with Dalian Huarui Heavy Industry Casting Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Machine Tool Plant Co., Ltd., HELER Precision Machinery (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd., C&U Group and Shenyang MAKA Machine Tool Company to jointly promote the digital transformation of China's machine tool manufacturing industry.
