Siemens and HBIS Group sign MoU to deepen cooperation on digitalization and decarbonization

  • Advancing the application of Siemens digital technologies on HBIS Group's digital platform for carbon neutrality
  • Jointly developing energy system analysis and assessment optimization tools to achieve smart energy management
  • Further expanding cooperation in the areas such as product structure upgrading, the construction of digital factories, and digital enterprise management based on Siemens Xcelerator digital business platform
  • Deepening cooperation in areas such as the R&D and application of additive manufacturing technology and the development of new materials

Siemens today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HBIS Group Co., Ltd. (HBIS Group) to comprehensively deepen cooperation on digitization and decarbonization. The two sides will expand their cooperation in such areas as digital factories, energy optimization, as well as green and low-carbon production and services, while deeply integrating advanced digital technologies with steel production processes to inject new momentum into the intelligent and green development of the steel industry.

"Based on the concepts of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, Siemens and HBIS Group have achieved fruitful results in their strategic cooperation and set benchmarks for innovation in the industry," said Dr. Xiao Song, Chairman, President and CEO of Siemens China. "Looking ahead, we will continue to leverage our complete localized value chain and global resources, as well as the 'Dual Drivers' of digitization and decarbonization, to complement each other's strengths and deepen our cooperation in a broader and deeper level and via new approaches to provide scientific and technological support for the high-quality and sustainable development of the metallurgical industry in China and globally."

Yu Yong, Chairman of HBIS Group, said, "Siemens and HBIS Group share a common pursuit of technological innovation and a common vision of empowering industrial transformation and upgrading. Over the past years, we have worked side by side to explore an effective path to transform technology into productivity. I believe that both of us will continue to expand the depth and breadth of our cooperation in areas such as smart manufacturing and low-carbon development to create a digital future for the steel industry."

Based on this agreement, Siemens and HBIS Group will work together to explore new paths for green and low-carbon development of the metallurgical industry and promote the application of Siemens Process Systems Engineering's modeling technology on HBIS Group's WisCarbon digital platform for carbon neutrality. Meanwhile, the two companies will collaborate in developing energy system analysis and assessment optimization tools to explore the potential of energy conservation and emission reduction in the whole process of the metallurgical industry, and create an industry model in the digital management of the whole process carbon footprint and carbon data. The two sides will also further expand cooperation in the areas such as product structure upgrading, the construction of digital factories, scientific operation and maintenance, digital enterprise management, and the development and application of additive manufacturing technology in the steel industry based on Siemens Xcelerator, a digital business platform. Taking the signing of the MoU as an opportunity, Siemens and HBIS Group will set up a joint task force and create a regular communication mechanism to ensure the smooth implementation of the cooperation project.

HBIS Group is a global leader in the steel materials manufacturing and integrated services sector. In 2016, Siemens and HBIS Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement to carry out in-depth cooperation in digital factories, smart manufacturing, industrial Internet of Things and other fields. In 2019, the two parties signed a strategic cooperation agreement in the field of R&D and industrialization of additive manufacturing. From the intelligent and unmanned yard in Tangsteel New District to the smart thin plate rolling mill project in Hengshui, and then to the project of top-level design and predictive maintenance of key equipment at the Shisteel intelligent steel mill, the cooperation between Siemens and HBIS Group has kept escalating and witnessed fruitful results over the past three years.
