Siemens joins hands with CR Cement to create new benchmark for intelligent manufacturing in process industries

Siemens and China Resources Cement Holdings Limited (CR Cement) have successfully launched the first phase of the intelligent manufacturing pilot project at Tianyang Base, CR Cement. Based on the Siemens Digital Enterprise Platform, CR Cement has applied Siemens’ advanced artificial intelligence, big data analysis, digital twin and industrial cybersecurity technologies, marking an important milestone for the two parties to promote the large-scale development of the digital transformation of China’s process industries and build a benchmark project for Sino-German cooperation on “Industrie 4.0”.

“The pilot project in Tianyang jointly built by Siemens and CR Cement fully embodies Siemens’ Digital Enterprise concept, which is committed to unleashing industrial potential through cutting-edge technologies,” said Yao Jun, Vice President of Digital Industries and General Manager of Process Automation Business Unit, Siemens Ltd., China. “China’s process industries are ushering in an era of digital transformation and upgrading for high-quality development. The cooperation between Siemens and CR Cement will boost the development of China’s process industries and lead industry innovation with successful practices.”

In the first phase of the pilot project, Tianyang Base has been upgraded and transformed in accordance with the complete digital transformation blueprint from design to implementation tailored by Siemens. The base has applied Siemens’ digital twin technology that combines reality and virtuality from three levels of the factory, production and performance, realizing digitalized plant operation and maintenance, standardized, process-oriented and mobile production management, as well as transparency of field data. With the help of the industrial big data software SiePA, the base can not only predict potential failures in production and operation, but also obtain timely diagnosis reports and equipment maintenance suggestions, therefore effectively controlling risks, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. Siemens’ situational awareness-based industrial cybersecurity solution has established a “perceivable, controllable and manageable” defense mechanism for the base to effectively safeguard production safety. Siemens has also applied many cutting-edge technologies in the project, such as the 5G network, as well as the online monitoring of equipment and electrical status. In addition, intelligent videos, the online monitoring of engineering vehicles, material composition analysis, and the online analysis of grain composition are in the process of deployment according to the overall project plan.

Siemens and CR Cement signed the “Agreement between Siemens and CR Cement on Strategic Cooperation on Intelligent Manufacturing I4.0” in Beijing in June 2018, opening a new chapter of cooperation between the two parties in the digital age. They later signed the “Intelligent Manufacturing Pilot Project at Tianyang Base of CR Cement” in Suzhou in September 2018, marking a solid step towards intelligent manufacturing. In the future, the two parties will further cooperate at the group level of CR Cement based on the success of the first phase of the pilot project in Tianyang.
