Siemens implements Mobile Working Model in China

• To establish mobile working as core component of the future working model

• Siemens among large companies that first transform working model permanently

• New working model relies on trust and result based leadership and owner-ship culture

Siemens announced in China to officially roll out mobile working as a core component of the future working model. In light of the ever-changing market environment and the arrival of digital age, enterprises need to be much more resilient and adaptable than ever. The coronavirus crisis and social distancing measures have shown that mobile working offers many advantages and is possible on a much wider scale. Therefore, the company’s Managing Board has approved the implementation of the new working model, which aims to enable employees worldwide to work on a mobile basis for an average of two or three days a week, and to make it a permanent standard both during the global pandemic and beyond. In China, the new model will bring employees a faster, more efficient and low-carbon way of work.

“Siemens is taking the lead in transforming towards mobile working, which best reflects our trust and empowerment to employees for achieving the best performance in a much flexible and efficient way. It is core for the Siemens culture to embrace changes, and our leadership is taking action responsively and responsibly,” said Lothar Herrmann, President and CEO of Siemens Greater China. “I am confident that by leveraging innovative mode of collaboration, as well as with Siemens’ comprehensive and advanced digital technologies and solutions, we will better serve Chinese customers and partners from various industries, and to set a benchmark in digital transformation.”

Siemens has been promoting mobile working and advocating a changing leadership style that focuses on outcomes rather than on time spent at the office. With the new way of working, the company is motivating and retaining employees while improving the company’s performance and sharpening Siemens’ image as an employee-focused, innovative and attractive employer. Adhering to relevant legal requirements, the new approach will be implemented based on alignment of demands of various job functions and teams. An integrated IT platform and specific training sessions will be provided to support the model’s launch.
