Siemens launches lightweight digital solution SIMICAS on Alibaba platform

• Enabling digital transformation from zero to one

• On-demand subscription or cancellation of functions

• Lower capital investment and human efforts, effective control of investment risks

• Successfully deployed in several production lines of SEAL

Siemens officially launched SIMICAS, a complete digital solution tailored for growing enterprises, on Alibaba e-commerce platform today. Developed by Siemens’ local team in China taking more than a year, SIMICAS is a lightweight digital solution aiming to provide enterprises with a flexible choice to the digital world, and to customize their digital development paths base on real needs. SIMICAS consists of four parts: SIMICAS intelligent gateway, SIMICAS configuration tool and two APPs based on MindSphere: SIMICAS Metrics Performer and SIMICAS Performance Analyzer.

“SIMICAS integrated Siemens’ advanced experiences accumulated in production, operation and management, and helps enterprises in different levels of automation realize breakthrough in digital transformation from zero to one. In addition, just with simply deployment, it enables effective data collection and analysis of the production lines in order to facilitate timely decision-making,” said Wang Biao, General Manager of Customer Services, Digital Industries, Siemens Ltd., China. “SIMICAS not only supports enterprises with on-demand subscription or cancellation of functions, but also effectively reduces costs for application, operation and maintenance, enabling smooth transition during digital transformation.”

SIMICAS supports data collection and upload via intelligent gateways, which is more flexible and applicable to production lines with different levels of automation such as manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic, including data collection for Siemens and third-party equipment. The collected data is pre-processed and uploaded to the cloud for data interconnection. The cloud APPs allow visualization of production performance indicators, access to the health status of the production line at anytime through multi-dimensional analysis, in order to find bottleneck of production for continuing optimization.

SIMICAS enables quick and cost-effective digital transformation of existing production lines. In general, there are four layers in digital transformation of traditional factories, i.e. equipment, control, management (MOM) and enterprise (ERP), which requires higher one-off investment. Being developed as an app for MindSphere, SIMICAS supports rapid deployment, remote upgrade and maintenance through easy access via web pages, independent of terminal types such as mobile phones, tablets and desktop PCs. The cloud-based applications, maintenance and upgrades are the responsibility of Siemens Digital Industries Customer Services, which allows users to subscribe on demand, reduce capital investment and human efforts, and effectively control investment risks.

Currently SIMICAS has been deployed in several production lines including manual and fully automated ones in Siemens Electrical Apparatus Ltd.,Suzhou.
